On a T46G, in Settings-Softkey Layout-"On Talk" state, I removed the Hold button, but it remains as a softkey during use.

Any ideas on why removing it in the web GUI doesn't actually remove it?

did you also select ENABLE 'Custom Softkey' at the top of that screen ?
