T42S factory reset without default password
I recently picked up several 2nd hand Yealink T42S handsets from auction.
These have been customised and the default password is not "admin".
I need to factory reset or change the password back to "admin", so I can login and reprovision them.

The firmware currently installed shows version: 66.81.193.110

So far I have tried the normal factory reset method of holding the "Ok" button down waiting for the prompt and then selecting Yes. This prompts for a password which is not "admin" (keeps saying wrong password).
I have also tried the another method I came across when searching for a answer - which is to hold the "speaker" button down and power cycle the handset. I get to the 1.TFTP or 2.USB display on the screen. I stop pressing the speaker button and press 1 for TFTP... It then displays some IP address settings (192.168.0.100,255.255.255.0,192.168.0.1 and a TFTP address of 192.168.0.23) . The instruction i had found suggested I press OK button and then power reset the phone and it would perform a factory reset.
Unfortunately it just boots back up with the same settings.
Can anyone help me ? I would hate to have to throw all these handsets out.

Hi Jeff,

Because the user is prohibited to factory reset the phone I suggest to use the Recovery method using an TFTP server.
The necessary recovery files can be downloaded here:
https://www.go-ccs.nl/downloads/Recovery_T42S.zip

As I never had to use this procedure I can’t help you with it if you have questions or run in to issues. So use it on your own risk.

Kind regards,
Frank.

Hi Jeff,

It should work, but due to the large amount of internet attacks from various countries I had to block some of these countries.
Which country are you trying to download from?

Kind regards,
Frank.

Hi Jeff,

This is Jay from Yealink Technical Support Team. Greetings~

In this case, could you please let us know the MAC info of your phones first?
We need to check whether these phones have been bound to another RPS server which is used for redirection and provisioning.
If so, these devices need to be released, or it will download and apply the configurations from the RPS server automatically once you finished the factory reset.

In addition, the recovery files are only used for solving initializing stuck issue.
So, there is a way below you can try to reset the default password "admin".
0. Make sure that your phones and your PC are under the same network.
1. Set up an HTTP Server (maybe you can try hfs.exe) on your PC and upload the configuration file (120487.cfg attached) to this local server.
2. Set up a "Zero Touch" DSSKEY on your phone:
- Menu => Features => DSSKEY => Select one "Line Key" => Set the Type as "Key Event" => Set the Key Type as "Zero Touch"
3. Press the "Zero Touch" on the idle screen, and follow the guide.
4. Fill in the URL of cfg file, then press "OK" to apply. The phone will reboot after the configuration has been updated.
5. Now, you can reset your phone to factory setting by long press "OK" button.

Btw, as for firmware, I suggest you upgrade to the latest version. Please kindly check the link below to download it.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Jay
