Rebooting cordless phone bases
There is no specific forum section for the Yealink W52H / W56H phones so I am posting here.

I'm trying to document the way to reboot the various Yealink phones - I don't find any documentation on rebooting this set - there is no X key.

For the more general / complete post please see here:

RE: Rebooting cordless phone bases
Hi Complex1 - thanks for the reply. Page 90 talks about PIN recovery, and PCAP's - I presume you are talking about PIN recovery?

The initial goal was rebooting the phone - I understand teh pin can be recovered - sometimes (after a network disruption for instance) a phone might need to be restarted. On all desk phones this can be accomplished by simply holding the X - I was looking for an "easy" way for users to do this on the cordless phones.

A reboot is not a security issue in most cases - as indicated by this section of the manual anyone with physical access can recover the PIN / wipte the phone - the issue in this case is more one of a simple way to perform a reboot - with wireless range extenders, and multiple roaming options the base station is often a LONG way away from the users. When a desk phone can be rebooted so simply, I thought maybe there was a way to reboot the cordless phones as well (without wiping changes / altering pin or giving the pin to the users (who could alter phone / base pairing if they had the pin - which IS a security issue).

Thanks for your thoughts - if I missed the point of your post please let me know? Thanks

Mitch

Hi Mitch,

Sorry, my bad.
I thought you meant if there is an other way to reset the Base without using a PIN.
Then Long Press the Paging Button but this will reset the Base completely, but if you have a PIN available then it is possible to reboot and/or reset the Base as you mentioned in your OP.

To answer your question in your other post:
- No PIN, no reset/restart, only reset to factory is possible by pressing the Paging Button, etc.
- If PIN is available then it will work for W52P/W56P base.
- Menu structure in W52H/W56H is the same.

If the user wants to restart the Base without having the PIN he must remove the power which is a bad option, imho. No other way, as far as I know.

I have a few W52P in the field and never had the need to reboot a Base after power failure or network issues.
The devices always came back on line and connect to the PBX.
In my case no need for the users to know the PIN.

BTW: Starting from v80 f/w, the W52P and W56P Base share the same firmware. No differences between them anymore.

Kind regards,
Frank.

RE: Rebooting cordless phone bases
Hey C1 - Cool thanks for confirming. I am not sure how long it will take them to get that Yealink Test Club going, but I think this is an inconsistency when compared with their other products. I signed up for that / would like to be able to have a better / more interactive way to communicate with the dev team - can't think of a better way than joining the beta test group!

Granted, it doesn't happen often - but we've seen issues where a bad nat state, etc. results in a failed registration. Without reg we can't reboot or update config, so occasionally if someone's Lan gets messed up then a reboot is a good way to fix. We have our provisioning / PBX outside the office - so the added gear is normally the cause - but a reboot is a quick fix.

Agreed - and in general, requiring it for handset pairing changes etc. seems like a good / great idea.

Good to know thanks!

RE: Rebooting cordless phone bases
I received an update from Yealink Tech support.
I noted it on the thread I linked to above.
