Linekey positioning
Hi,
We are using T29G phones. We are limited somewhat by our VoIP vendor in what we can do.

I am trying to have three line buttons (accomplished, no big deal there) for a single account. However, I would also like to add a second account BUT would like the line button either to be hidden or placed in the last page of buttons.

The reason I want to do this is because we need an overflow ring group (or simulated).
This should ring all the phones plus other phones AND allow the use of Call Pickup.

However, our VoIP service doesn't allow Call Pickup in a Ring Group. The reason I want the second account, is because I can have that line ring (not as part of a Ring Group) on the phones. However, when that line is answered on a phone, because it is Account 2, it cannot be put out as a parked call because he park buttons are all on Account 1.

My plan is to hide the extension or place it on the last page, and use the Call Pickup feature to grab the call which should place it in an Account 1 line where it can be put in Park or handled from there.

There are just too many issues picking up the overflow call directly off Account 2.

Thanks in advance for your help

RE: Linekey positioning
Hello !

Which firmware version are you using ?
Not sure I understand correctly. Can you access your phone's IP address thru a web browser ? If you can, try admin as username and admin as password. If it doesn't work, try user as username and user as password. If you are able to access the configuration pages, go in "DSS Keys" tab, select the "Line Key19-27" on the left and add data to the Line key 27.
Type: Line
Value: Default
Label: Account2 (whatever u want in this)
Line: Line 2

For the Pickup on a ring group, maybe it is just not configured correctly, Yealink has the "Direct Pickup" which is commonly used. But they also have a "Group Pickup". Maybe your provider tried to "Direct Pickup" a ring group.
More tests should be made. Ask your provider about that, bother them until they actually do it...

For my part, I know that i always try to cut the corners to do my stuff as quickly as possible, but if a client ask something 2-3-4-5 times, I'll spend more time testing and then getting it instead of just ignoring their request.

Thanks for your reply.

Through the phone's web interface, I did actually create a manual line at the very last button on Page 3 of the phone. I was able to get it there by disabling the Yealink's "automatic line key"? setting...something like that (don't have one in front of me right now). However, I couldn't do it through the templating process that our provider allows as it forces all linekeys to be listed first.

This would mean manually adding that button to potentially a lot of phones. This could be a support issue later down the road, especially when swapping new phones, factory reset, etc.. I still might go this route but it seems a clunky way to get the job done...especially when I can see that the Yealink phones have this capability.

There is an old request with our provider asking for Group call pickup. It is frustrating because I did see the capabilities in the Yealink as well but without the backend/cloud PBX support for it, it won't work. I believe our provider may instead be adding that with a more feature rich system with Broadsoft rather than Asterisk.

For right now, I have the extra line at the end of their existing line button, 3rd after 1 and 2. They want all the buttons they use the most on the main page which unfortunately leaves no room for the Call Pickup button. I gave them the code to pickup the line but for them a button is so much easier.

We try to get the job done but we are the middle man and have to work in that frame.

RE: Linekey positioning
My apologies for the late reply. We are using .80 firmware.

Yes I can access the phone's web GUI. I used the GUI to manually add a line for account 2 on DSS key 27. To do this, I also had to disable the "Auto Linekeys" setting under Features / General Info. However, read below.

The issue that comes around is two-fold.
1. We are going through a VoIP provider that limits what we can do. Within their Asterisk server, group call pickup not an option, however single line pickup is an option via speedial, or prefix, or manually typeing *8[extension]
2. The VoIP provider limitation on adding line keys programmatically allows line keys to only be added in succession.
For example: I can assign DSS keys 1,2,3 as extension 7400. When I attempt to assign extension 7499 as DSS key 27, it is forced to be at DSS key 4.
I can add 7499 to DSS key 27 manually but I would have to do that to every phone that needs it and if a phones gets reset, the support person would have to remember or know that DSS key 27 needs to be reassigned as 7499.

I hope that makes sense.

What I ended up doing is actually making sure that they do not pickup call to 7499 directly by pressing the DSS 4 button assigned (it is Line 2) because it limits Parks which are only/by default/ assigned to Line 1.

Instead, I have them press the pre-defined call pickup button/speed dial, "*87499" which, then pulls the call onto Line 1 .

So, the line/accounts assigned look like this.

DSS Key 1 = 7400 (Line 1)
DSS Key 2 = 7400 (Line 1)
DSS Key 3 = 7400 (Line 1)
DSS Key 4 = 7499 (Line 2)
DSS Key 5 = Speed dial *87499 (Line 1)

RE: Linekey positioning
Maybe you could ask them to add those lines to the autoprovision feature for the extensions that you need it.
Code:
linekey.27.label = Pickup
linekey.27.line = 1
linekey.27.type = 13
linekey.27.value = *87499

Code:
linekey.27.label = Pickup
linekey.27.line = 1
linekey.27.type = 13
linekey.27.value = *87499

The call pickup button is not the issue, it was that they would/might use the 7499 (which is Line 2) line button itself to pick up the call which would then not allow them to park the call because the Park buttons default to Line 1.

I think we are all set for now. They just needed a bit of training/info that the 7499 button is just for an alert (rings the phone) and should only be answered from the Call Pickup button.

Thanks for your help
