T46G losing DSS Key programming (partial)
We have recently made the decision to switch to digital phone service, and our provider (Vonage) sold us twenty-six T46G phones as part of our package. Our porting is happening today and Monday, so we just started setting up phones this week.

I've spent the last 2-3 days programming the DSS Keys for each user via IP from my web browser.

Two days ago, one user lost partial programming of her DSS keys. The Type was changed back to "Line" from "Speed Dial" or other settings for many (but not all) of her DSS Keys, the Values were blanked out (numbers erased), but the Labels were left alone.
So, on the phone, it looked at first glance, everything was fine... but most of the DSS Keys didn't function as they were programmed (because part of their settings are erased or set back to default).

I re-programmed her phone yesterday, but it lost the same programming again today... along with 4 other T46G phones... same type of partial erasure/loss of DSS Key programming.

Vonage recommended I upgrade the firmware with an image from Yealink's site. I downloaded the T46-28.81.0.25 firmware... and I've pushed it to 5 phones using the procedure found in the Yealink documentation.
3 of the phones upgraded properly, but 2 of the phones kept updating and rebooting for about 20 minutes, and eventually ending up with "No Service". They're on the network, with an IP address, but I cannot log into them using either the default Yealink credentials or my Vonage credentials. Also, the firmware shows to be 28.81.193.15. This firmware is beyond what I downloaded and pushed to the phones... it's like the phones downloaded their own firmware after I pushed the image I downloaded from Yealink.

What can I do, since I cannot log into the phones to configure anything? They won't let me log into the phones via browser or directly at the handset.

Is this a firmware issue or something simple? Are the phones defective? I couldn't find any reports of similar issues.
Please, help... management is not happy, and I have to find a solution.

Well, we've had this happen again.

Speeddial buttons lose their Value, but not their Label... also the Type gets changed back to Line.

This happens for all Speeddial keys, except for the ones in spaces 8, 9, 17, and 18... the last 2 spots on pages 1 and 2 (we weren't using page 3).

This is so odd... and it happens still even with the 28.81.0.25 firmware.

I don't want to have to reprogram keys everyday for all my users on this brand new system... we need help, please.

Is there a log in the phone that we can read to see when/how the keys were changed? There has to be a way to debug or chase this thing down.

Hi,

There is a possibility to log the info and sent it to Yealink support.
http://forum.yealink.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1319

Only one problem… As far as I know Yealink employees are on holiday from Jan 23th till Feb 3rd so it could take a while before you get an answer from them.

Are the phones Powered over Ethernet or do they have their own Power Adapter?

Kind regards,
Frank.

I am not an employee of Yealink.
Dutch is my native language, not English. Apologies for my imperfect grammar.
Please do not send unsolicited PM messages. I will not answer them.

The phones have their own power supplies.

I'll look into sending them a log file.
Thanks for the info.

Cory,
What it sounds like to me is the phones are getting a provisioning template most likely from the host provider.
In that template the values are nulled out for the speed dials.

So what happens is you manually program the settings on the phone. All looks good.
The phone "periodically" re-downloads its config template. And all your settings are gone. (We intentionally do this on our phones so users do not customize the buttons)
This is because the template told the phone to remove them cause they are not in the template.

There are a few ways to confirm this.
You feel confident in your ability to navigate the phone? I can give you instructions.
Otherwise PM me and i can walk you through it more in detail.

I have the same question about the DSS Key programming on a T48G being overwritten by Vonage's random provisioning procedure.

Thanks.
