Problem with W52P Base and Cisco POE
We have installed many of the W52P units and always use Cisco POE hardware to power these units.

Today one of our client's wireless handsets went down and we started seeing this on our Cisco Switch:

Code:
Mar 25 11:14:06 PST: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: Power Device detected: IEEE PD
Mar 25 11:14:07 PST: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: PD removed
Mar 25 11:14:08 PST: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: Power Device detected: IEEE PD
Mar 25 11:14:09 PST: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: PD removed
Mar 25 11:14:10 PST: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: Power Device detected: IEEE PD
Mar 25 11:14:11 PST: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: PD removed
Mar 25 11:14:12 PST: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: Power Device detected: IEEE PD
Mar 25 11:14:13 PST: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/15: PD removed

We did the usual - switch ports on the switch, plug the base directly into the switch bypassing all hose cabling.

All other POE devices on the switch are working just fine so I know it is not the switch.

I just figured I would see if anyone else had this same issue or is there was anyway to further troubleshoot before replacing the unit.

Thanks in Advance...

I have never seen this before and was wondering if anyone had any ideas

Hi,

So the W52P suddently went down? Can it power through POE now?
What's the W52P firmware? If it's not V73, please upgrade to V73 and check again. Phone use a new LLDP version in V73.

Hi James -

We are running the latest firmware as of one week ago when we installed the unit and upgraded it and the phones.

The base station is totally unreachable. It will not come online via the POE switch or the power adaptor that it came with, so I am not sure where to go from here.

Is there some type of factory reset that does not require the phone to communicate with the base station? Some type of button on the base station itself?

Thanks

If it even can't be powered through power adapter there is no method to reset it. I am afraid the it need to be replaced.

This is the resetting method with a power adapter.
1. Disconnect the power adapter.
2. Long press the paging key and reconnect the power adapter. When base station finishes reset, the power indicator LED, network status LED and registration LED illuminate in sequence. System PIN and all individual settings are reset to factory defaults. Handset registrations will also be cleared after base station reset.

Regards,
James

RE: Problem with W52P Base and Cisco POE
Thanks James -

Here is what is happening so far. The unit refuses to boot off any POE device, we tried two different switches. It does, however boot correctly and works fine with the power adaptor.

I am concerned that the unit which was installed just last week and worked for a week off the POE switch (Cisco 3750G) lost the capability and now needs a power adaptor.

I think the unit needs to be replaced, what do you think?

Many Thanks

Try a hard reset with power adaptor to exclude software issue.
If the problem persist, it must be a hardware issue of POE model.

RE: Problem with W52P Base and Cisco POE
Just an update...seems like this was a non-issue caused by the client. Basically they unplugged and moved the base unit. In doing so, one person unplugged it and yet another person moved it. When it came time to hook it back up, the person plugged in the power adaptor and then plugged it into the POE port on the cisco switch. The W52 does not like this at all. You can do either, but you cannot do both. I verified this operation on another unit last night.

If you try and use both the base unit flips out and will do neither.

Thanks for your help James, maybe this will help someone else out of the same spot!
