Codec priority list - Philippe_ - 01-11-2018 11:57 AM

Hi,
I have a question about the codec priority list.
The Yealink phones have a priority list like this:
iLBC_15_2
G726-40
G726-32
...
...
...
PCMU
PCMA
G729
G722
G723_53

In our telephony server, we have only codec G.711 enabled and the phone specialist says that the telephony server will choose the codec and that the priority list in the yealink phone doesn't count.
It is the server that makes the choice.
So even if PCMA (G.711) is on the bottom of the list, it doesn't matter? Is that correct?

thanks.

Hi,

Your telephone specialist is right.

The codec priority is determined by the offeror, so when the PBX calls an extension, then the codec priority will be determined by the PBX that initiates the call.
When an extension calls another extension or calls the PBX, then the codec priority will be determined by the extension that initiates the call.
In your case only G.711 codec is enabled in the PBX so this codec will be used. It is the only codec match between PBX and phone.
