Daylight saving time settings - Radvoc-Jon - 03-11-2015 01:51 AM

I've got several T26P and T46G phones deployed. I have the daylight saving time set to "automatic", yet the phones have not updated the time. My ntp servers are ntp.pool.org and us.ntp.pool.org.

I can also adjust the daylight saving time to be "enabled", and set "DST by week". When I enter the start date as first Sunday in March, and end date as first Sunday in November, the time updates correctly, however, the fields both reset to January, so I'm not sure if they're saving the settings. So, when DST ends in November, do I have to go through this exercise again?

Any help appreciated.

Hello Jon,

You enter the wrong ntp server address, the primary server should fill in:pool.ntp.org while the second server fill in:us.pool.ntp.org. After doing this, the phone will obtain the time from ntp server automatically.
About the DST, please update the phone firmware to the latest version,6.73.0.50 for T26P, 28.73.0.50 for T46G. After completing the upgrading process, you should do reset the phone to factory again. then it will be available to custom the DST rule when you set the "Daylight Saving Time" to Enabled. I also take a short video about this setting for your reference.

Thank you.

Peter-

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, but I misspoke. The NTP server is already set exactly as you said....pool.ntp.org, not ntp.pool.org. So that's not the issue. As I described in my email, I believe there is a bug for the time zone "-7 United States-Mountain Time". And I am using 6.73.0.50 firmware.

When you leave Daylight Saving time set to "automatic", and choose the time zone "-7 United States-Mountain Time", I believe it is the exact same template as "-7 United States-Mountain Time no DST". The time will not be correct if I choose that time zone. However, if I choose the time zone "-7 Canada (Edmonton,Calgary)", the time does update correctly and automatically. Try this for yourself....choose the time zone "-7 United States-Mountain Time" and see what the screen looks like. Then choose "-7 Canada (Edmonton,Calgary)" and you will see a longer list of items. They will be grayed out, because DST is set to "automatic", but among the grayed out items, you will see DST start month, DST stop month, offset (minutes), and a few other fields. You do not see those fields when you choose time zone "-7 United States-Mountain Time".

At this point, it's simply a minor inconvenience, as all of my phones were set to "-7 United States-Mountain Time". I simply had all my users set their phones to "-7 Canada (Edmonton,Calgary)", since Canada has the same daylight saving rules as the United States. I just thought your team might want to look at the difference between the two United States Mountain time zone rules. They should be different, but I'm pretty sure they're exactly the same.

Thanks.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for your detailed description.Smile
From my side testing, I try reproducing your problem by upgrading the phone to 6.73.0.50, choose the time zone to "-7 United States-Mountain Time", it did display the long list of items as below image shows, then I try downgrade to 6.73.0.40 and upgrade to 6.73.0.50 again, it also performs normally.

I have uploaded a template of DST xml, you can find it defines the same DST rule on "-7 United States-Mountain Time" & "-7 Canada (Edmonton,Calgary).
<DST szTime="-7" szZone="Canada(Edmonton,Calgary)" iType="1" szStart="3/2/7/2" szEnd="11/1/7/2" szOffset="60"/>
<DST szTime="-7" szZone="United States-Mountain Time" iType="1" szStart="3/2/7/2" szEnd="11/1/7/2" szOffset="60"/>

So, please be aware that when the phone complete the upgrading and revert back to idle, you should reset the phone to factory again.

Thank you.
Best Regards,
Peter
