Turn on backlight with keypress without action - willemj - 03-01-2015 04:59 AM

Hello,

I did a search for a solution on the forum but did not find an answer so:

Is there a setting in the T4x series to enable the backlight when pressing a key but ignoring the keypress itself?

Some background:

I have the backlight turned off after some idle time. Without the backlight on most of the time I cannot read the display so I have to press a button to turn the backlight on. But this button also triggers a function. What I would like, and other devices act like this, is that when the backlight is off / the phone is idle and I press any key the backlight is turned on but the keypress itself is ignored.

At this time I have to press a key to turn on the backlight, undo the action of the key and start my call / look at the missed calls list / etc.

I'm using a T41P with firmware 36.73.0.45

I do not have 1 in front of me setup - but how about hitting the "X" button?

Thanks Kulapo. That is what I was remembering... but I am in the process of moving offices.

Thanks! Almost perfect solution. It will clear the 'missed calls list' message though. Pressing the headset button doesn't: so problem (98%) solved Smile

The left or right arrow key are defaulted to Switch Account UP and Switch Account Down
IF this phone is registered to ONE account only - then EITHER Left or Right will accomplish with 100% solution

If you register on multiple accounts - you COULD disable these keys in the CONFIG by making them TYPE = 0
Although you would loose that account change functionality
However if you SHOW Line Keys by separate registration - and you customer is uses LINE keys to change account for outbound dialing, then you could disable the left right arrow keys

Even if you have MULTIPLE account registration - There may be GOOD reason to disable the left and right arrow keys - They silently and almost INVISIBLY change the default account.

IF you accidentally hit one of these keys the ONLY indication you have that you have changed your NEXT dialout account is the LABEL at the bottom of the display - they are very small on the T41 ( and barely noticeable on ANY of the phones ) ---- You may inadvertently dial out on a second or third account - while your intent was to dial out on your default account

Bottom Line
One account ?? - Left or Right Arrow = 100%
Multiple account - X key works at 98%
Multiple accounts with DISABLED left and right arrow keys = Left or Right arrow = 100%
