Is W52P a nark/fink?? - moon77 - 11-15-2014 04:20 AM

My VOIP provider knows which SIP device I'm using! (see below).
He even knows which firmware version!!!
Is it a way to help NSA track devices and persons?
How can I hide this??

What kind of illegal stuff are you doing?

The IP Address alone the feds can goto the provider then find out who was assigned the IP Address with the date in question.

You didn't answer to my question.
Instead you tried to change the subject asking another question.
I believe this is rude.

I'm not like you, I'm going to answer to your question:
I'm not doing anything illegal, of course, I'm just on the Snowden side.
I'm fed up of being tracked by BIG BROTHER.
PRIVACY is important for me.

Here's my question, once again:
Why does Yealink gives so much information?
Does Yealink follow NSA recommendations?

Thank you

Hi Moon77,

These information are included in register message which you send to PBX server to finish an account registration. They can be used by PBX server to manage device registering to it.

Please don't worry. The two information is not confidential. They are defined in standard SIP protocol to make phone and system work better.

Other brad sip phones will also submit the two message to server.

Regards,
James

If privacy is important to you then check if your VoIP provider supports Secure Voice (SRTP).
This ensures (make it difficult) that NSA / Big Brother can not play back the audio stream.
SRTP adds security features, such as message authentication, confidentiality and replay protection.
All Yealink devices support this feature.

FYI, ZRTP is much better but that's not the problem.
The problem is Yealink. It's impossible to change the information given to my VOIP provider.
With a SIP Softphone, you can do it easily.
What other information does my w52p give to my VOIP provider?
I'm thinking about using WIRESHARK to discover what other IDs my w52p transmit...

Just what Yealink_James replied to you.

BTW: I was trying to help you with some extra info about how to secure your voice data, but I think you don’t appreciate it.
I am sorry that I have responded to your post. This will not happen again.

Regards.

After working a few hours, I've discovered things I don't like with WireShark.
I'll keep this information for myself and let the lambs be the NSA target, some of them seem to be happy about this situation.
I'm American and I'm on the Snowden side.
I'll sell my w52p even if I didn't find any other comparable model yet.
Is it a taboo to talk about the competitors on this forum?
Who are they?

Hi 'moon77'

Please don't be upset on me for replying to your inquiry,

All I want to add, is that Yealink is not to blame, it's just the way how SIP works, as you will have the same result by using other brands as well, like Polycom, Grandstream, Snom, and others, try it out for yourself and let me know if I'm wrong.

Thank you Abe, I'm afraid I'll only have the Softphone SIP choice...
