Converting T48G to Skype Test - Emithez - 09-23-2016 10:27 PM

Little bit lengthy but figured it might help and maybe someone has some input:

From physical appearance the T48G and the T48G Skype version phones are identical. It's quite obvious that the only difference in the two devices is the firmware image. Currently I have over 100 regular T48G devices rolled out within my company. I am a couple firmware revisions behind but they are running T48-35.80.0.95.

One of our vendors shipped us 10 or so Skype edition phones last week by accident. I decided to tinker around with imaging a Skype phone with T48-35.80.0.95 (non-Skype firmware), thus making them non-skype edition phones. I also decided to take my phone (regular T48G) and image it with Skype edition firmware (T48-35.8.0.43) to see if they were backwards compatible.

Below are my results:
When imaging a regular T48G with Skype edition firmware the device's graphical appearance on the LCD screen seems to be fine. We do not have any Skype licensing to confirm its functionality but when comparing it to one of the Skype edition phones everything looked to be in place. I decided to revert the device back since it was my personal phone and I ran across an issue -- the device continued to log itself (extension) in and out thus not allowing the user to make phone calls. I then decided to go from firmware T48-35.80.0.95 to T48-35.80.0.130 in hopes that it would correct the device's issue...no luck. I decided to downgrade again to T48-35.80.0.95, the device still continued to log itself in and out. When I got back to the office this morning the phone was in a constant reboot cycle - reboot, initialize, fully booted for 2-minutes, repeat. Finally I was able to get into the GUI of the device and factory default it and that seemed to correct the issue. So, for that test the results seem to be - Regular T48G can take accept Skype firmware and appears to have no issues; when reverting back to a regular firmware version you'll have to factory default the device and then upgrade to your current regular firmware at that point.

I then took a Skype edition T48G and imaged it with T48-35.80.0.95. I ran into the same issue as above where the device continues to log itself in and out. I am in dire need of a regular T48G for a new employee starting on Monday so my goal or task is to find a workaround that will allow the T48g Skype edition phones to be stable on regular firmwares. I also upgraded its firmware to T48-35.80.0.130, same results. So, if anyone has any idea for stabilizing this or any input on why this is occurring, I'm all ears.

I assume the end goal for YeaLink would be to allow these phones to work on either firmware type on account that corporations will be migrating more and more to Skype solutions as time goes on.

Thanks

Thanks for the attention on Yealink products, after SFB firmware version(T48-35.8.0.43) converts to sip firmware version(T48-35.80.0.130), factory reset the device is the step MUST be done. Vice versa.

Hi,
How do I get the Yealink Skype for Business firmware? I need to upload it to my T48G phone for testing because I am thinking of using SFB for my entire site but I want to test it first before I approach the business for buy in, any idea how I can get the firmware?

Thanks,

Sam.
