Call Waiting Ring - nicknomo - 03-11-2014 04:02 AM

I have a few other phones, and this is a feature that most of them have. The option on the Polycoms and the Cisco phone is to make a call waiting RING (from speaker) instead of a call waiting BEEP.

The use case is for users who are in direct proximity of one another, who cover each others calls when the targetted caller is already occupied.

Currently on Yealink phones, a second incoming call beeps on the handset. If a user is on the phone, they will hear this tone on the handset, but no one else in the office will know they have an incoming call. Due to this it is impossible for anyone to pick up the call for this user.

The workaround this is of course to automatically ring the other phones that would be covering for the user when they are not picked up (e.g. follow me)... but this tends to drive people insane - mainly because they are usually working on another task and their phones are constantly ringing with calls that aren't even theirs.

Most small offices aren't call centers, and they aren't primarily focused on answering the phones. We don't necessarily want to push traffic to the phones of several users when someone answers, because they will often be busy with a spreadsheet or working on their computer. In situations like this, we need employees to pick up calls when they can and on their own their own accord. This is not possible with Yealink phones, since we can't ring on an extension that is in use...

This has been asked for by quite a few folks here on the forum, myself included but Yealink hasn't seen fit to include it in their feature set yet. Maybe if we get a few more people to say that this is indeed a needed option they will add it in.

I'm sure this would make a lot of people happy.

At the very least it would be nice if the call waiting tone actually came out of the speakerphone (at a well audible volume) while you were on the handset... I know you can make your own tone, so even that would be workable. Optimally though, I'd like to be able to have a full on ring, with a selectable ring tone (e.g. ring1.wav).

Hi nicknomo, Can you tell me which model of POLYCOM or Cisco Phone has this feature?

RE: Call Waiting Ring - nicknomo - 03-11-2014 10:40 PM

I believe most of them do this, but try the 796x phones. This isn't the default setting, but I believe the setting is "call waiting ring" to enable the ringing.

Thanks to your reply. We will test CISCO 7965 for this feature and evaluate this feature.

I think in CISCO phone using Multilevel Precedence and Preemption (MLPP) to enable ringing in the phone.
Do you mean this feature?

Sorry, I have no idea what that is. Our Cisco engineer gave me this document though

I second this request. I've opened up another post on the same subject before I found this, and MANY other posts on the same subject.

I've never seen an office phone that did not have the ability to RING for call waiting, other than Yealink phones, and I've implemented quite a few phone systems in the past, using 20 or so different phones.

I have an implementation of around 100 t46G phones, that is now on hold because we can't use them until we have call waiting RING (from speaker).
All we really need, is the option to choose where the call waiting tone goes. Speaker, handset, or headset, or all three. Should be a simple feature to implement.

As it stands now, if we cannot get this working in the next few weeks we will have to return our phones and go with another provider, as our users cannot hear their callers when a call waiting tone comes through their head/handset, and makes us look extremely unprofessional when we have to continually ask customers to repeat themselves.

Has this feature been implemented yet?
