Right now when someone leaves a voicemail, a little cassette tape flashes on the screen. Since cassettes are a thing of the past, perhaps it would be more appropriate to use another image to represent waiting voicemails. Maybe an icon of lips or something.

Thanks for your suggestion.
Now when there's voicemail, the MESSAGE button will light.
And you can disable "Subscribe for MWI" in the webpage-Account-Advanced, so it will not prompt voicemail message on the screen at intervals.
