Hi
I have a customer with 50 T55A phones with Teams firmware. The Teams implementation has failed big time and they are now moving to SIP based solution and naturally want to maintain there investment in phones.

Can the T55A have SIP firmware installed?
If so what is the process to do this?

thanks
Peter
Hi Yealink

this is a yes or no type question.

If yes then what is the process?

If no then may I suggest you add this into the work program for the T55A because Teams can be tricky and you might not want to leave too many other customers with thousands of dollars worth of phones that are useless to them.

thanks
Peter
Hello,
I have the same issue.
Did you found a solution?
Thanks
This is an interesting warning for us who were considering integrating a Teams phone but it was never clear that these phones would be so tightly integrated.

Have you attempted to load T5X firmware on it?

They should have a SIP based solution.
I just upgrade the firmware on my T58A to the regular SIP firmware, and it works perfectly for me.
Notice that the T55 is the only phone in the Yealink lineup that is explicitly listed only under the Teams heading. All other T5X and even the 4X phones show up as both Teams/SFB and SIP versions. So I suspect the T55 was developed as a prototype of Teams only or for some Teams specific reason and you may not have a generic SIP firmware for it. Only way to know for sure is to open a ticket with Yealink and see.

Honestly responsiblity for that falls on whomever was your supplier/vendor who recommended the T55 with the Teams solution. Personally I would have checked for SIP compatibility BEFORE making any commitment to hardware, as MS products have had a long history of flopping/failing/not living up to expectations/being too expensive/etc and the ability to roll back to a standard SIP solution should have been an absolute requirement before committing to purchase...
Hi jolouis

I basically agree with you and I was not involved in original solution design and specification. I am now trying to assist in making the best out of a bad situation.

The T55 specs say it is based on Android so I am guessing that the Teams functions is essentially an Android app on top of this. Probably written by Yealink and M'soft in collaboration (pure speculation on my part.) How difficult would it be for Yealink to have a SIP app as a replacement for the Teams app.

That said if MS own the hardware design IP then the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Eternally optimistic though.

Well Yealink have other Android based devices (T58 series, VP59) but the hardware of the T55 looks quite specific and generally porting Android from one device to the other is not exactly trivial so I would expect your chances of getting this to happen are fairly small, especially if you've already purchased the T55s and so don't represent a "new business opportunity" per se...

From a technical perspective I'm sure what you want is probably doable, but unfortunately other than helping you guys hold face there's not much of a business case for doing the work you'd need to have done. If you open a support ticket, my guess would be Yealink will just come back and say "Sorry T55 is teams only, buy some of our other phones".

How many T55s do you have? I mean if you're talking very large numbers, it might be worth reaching out to Yealink sales directly and asking something more like "We have YYY of the T55s that we need SIP support for... how much $$ would we have to send your way to make that happen?"
Hi,

On the 3CX forum there was a question something like the customer of @peterf also want.
Maybe it help a bit.

I have this exact same issue and need a resolution asap. @peterf, were you able to find a work around?

Thanks!
