I've noticed another issue, if an inbound call is picked up by another extension the W52 doesn't have any record of the call. I would have expected it to show in the missed call log.

Is this known? Any work around?

If you pick up a call in other phones, will they show the missed call log?
The missed call behavior depends on the cancel message sent by server. If the cancel message contain reason code header then phone won't display missed call log. What's your sip server?

I'm using as my provider,move verified that this behaviour is consistent with my T48G. I can live with the behaviour.
